ArtSpan and the San Francisco Ferry Building invite you to Arrivals, an Art-In-Neighborhoods exhibition presenting work by six local ArtSpan Artist Members whose lives and practices have been shaped by the immigrant experience.
The exhibition is situated inside the Ferry Building which has been a portal into San Francisco since 1898, the first place countless people stood on new ground after long journeys across oceans, borders, and the Bay itself. Arrivals places contemporary art made by immigrant artists into that charged context, transforming the Grand Hall into a space where those ongoing stories can be seen, felt, and honored.
The works span 2D and 3D: mixed media prints layered with graphite and digital color, intimate and monumental oil portraits, fragmented ceramic tile works, large-scale acrylic canvases pulling from personal mythologies and Bay Area daily life, and quilts hand-stitched from family clothing. They ask different questions in different voices, but they gather around the same feelings: what it means to arrive, and what it takes to belong.

Come celebrate immigrant art and stories, as we turn the Ferry Building’s Grand Hall into a silent disco. 100 pairs of headphones, two channels, and music drawn from every culture represented in the show: Chinese, Filipino, Palestinian, Colombian, Chilean, Rajasthani, Ukrainian. You choose what you hear. The person next to you is hearing something else. Highlight the diversity of music and culture in the Bay Area.
Free RSVP and Cash bar, card accepted too. Show up early if you want headphones. Headphones cycle through the night so don't stress if you're not first in line. 🎶
