July 11 - August 10th
Opening July 11, 6-10 pm
Please join us July 11th at Parts Peculiar as Americana Landscape, curated by Victor Saucedo, opens in San Francisco.
The show explores how “Americana” lives on in the remains, ruins, and reinventions of home, history, and identity. Some works confront the violence of exclusion and the structures that sustain it. Others assert the quiet power of presence and survival. Several turn to history and spiritual frameworks to interpret the turbulence of our present moment—drawing lines between ancestral knowledge, inherited memory, and what has long been foretold.
The Bay Area has always stood in tension with traditional Americana. As the birthplace of counterculture, a refuge for immigrants and queer communities, and a site of ongoing resistance, the Bay reshapes what Americana is and could become. Here, artists remix, reclaim, or reject the nation’s myths—revealing a future that’s multiracial, multivocal, and radically imaginative.
This show is also a love letter to the Bay Area—a region that continues to nurture artists, storytellers, and cultural workers committed to both protest and tenderness. I’m grateful to be part of that lineage.
This show holds space for both the polished and the raw—for work shaped by institutions, and for work that pushes back against them.
