This exhibition is evidence.
PROOF marks GCS Agency's third San Francisco location and first foothold in Union Square — a deliberate and exciting expansion into the city's most visible cultural corridor.
San Francisco's next chapter is being written now by those willing to shape it. SF New Deal's Vacant to Vibrant program and the Mayor's office are empowering culturally relevant and ambitious businesses like ours to get resourceful and build the future we wish to see — one that is adaptive, action-oriented, and unapologetically resilient. PROOF reflects that energy: a new space kicking off with twelve participants whose work doesn't ask for permission or wait for fair-weather fans.
Hueman, Mark Schoening, Charlie Edmiston, Abbott Stillman, Eli Coccetti, Deniz Kaptan, Justin Ware, Citlali Haro, Cloe Galasso, Mark Engel, Jack Leamy, and Layer Canvas represent different stages of momentum, different material approaches, and different relationships to the market. What they share is commitment to the work itself: the emotional excavation, aesthetic rigor, cathartic drive of raw creativity.
236 Powell exists because infrastructure matters. This location, secured in Union Square at a pivotal moment, is proof that San Francisco's art community doesn't need rescuing; it needs resourcing, momentum, and space to operate.
This opening is proof of our relentless pursuit of artistic excellence. Proof that GCS doesn't wait for ideal conditions — we maximize all opportunities.
