Cocteau to Haring: Queer art of the 20th century

  • Saint Joseph's Art Society 1401 Howard Street San Francisco, CA, 94103 United States (map)

Join us for our next ArtTalk covering the artists who defined queer identity and aesthetic throughout the early and mid-20th century. From Jean Cocteau and Paul Cadmus to Romaine Brooks, Beauford Delaney, Tamara de Lempicka, David Hockney, and Keith Haring, these visionaries expressed their queer identities both openly and subtly, creating boundary-pushing works that continue to shape art and culture today. We will be doing a deep dive into the fascinating recent discovery of a lost collection by Sydney Engelberg (1912-1997), featuring intimate depictions of male camaraderie and affection during his service in WWII. This hour-long lecture is tailored to art lovers and anyone eager to explore the intersection of art, identity, and history.

ArtTalk from 6:00-7:00 with Lost Art Salon Co-Founder, Rob Delamater

Doors open at 5:30pm | $10 for non-patrons | Free for patrons
