We are thrilled to announce Virtual Crush, a group exhibition curated by artist and avatar LaTurbo Avedon that explores the transformation of the simulated body over the past seventeen years. The seven featured international artists focus on questions of identity, intimacy, and agency from the days when the Internet was still a place you logged onto to the proliferation of generative AI.

As LaTurbo writes in their curatorial statement: “Virtual Crush: how do you read it? Does virtual modify crush, or crush modify virtual, or are they operating in both directions at once? The exhibition refuses to resolve that ambiguity. Virtual arrives here in its fullest sense: not the diminished copy, not the screen-mediated substitute for something more real elsewhere, but the field of difference and potential that precedes actualization.”

Opening in /room/ alongside Virtual Crush in the main gallery is 似曾相识 | Dance, in Theater with Window, an exhibition by Berkeley-based artist Yiming Clara. The artist uses familiar forms to explore the exhibition space as a site of social choreography, inviting us to renegotiate our relations to the world and to others. 似曾相识 | Dance, in Theater with Window was selected from our 2025 open call by jurors Nicolás Colón and Fernanda Partida Ochoa.
