Thing one: Queer Modernism - Cocteau to Haring
& Introducing Syndey Engelberg (1912-1997)
Art Talk Thursday, June 26, 2025
6:00 - 7:00 pm
Join Lost Art for their next ArtTalk covering the artists who defined queer identity and aesthetic throughout the early and mid 20th century. From Jean Cocteau and Paul Cadmus to Romaine Brooks, Beauford Delaney, Tamara de Lempicka, David Hockney, and Keith Haring, these visionaries expressed their queer identities both openly and subtly, creating boundary-pushing works that continue to shape art and culture today. We will be doing a deep dive into the fascinating recent discovery of a lost collection by Sydney Engelberg (1912-1997), featuring intimate depictions of male camaraderie and affection during his service in WWII. This hour-long lecture is tailored to art lovers and anyone eager to explore the intersection of art, identity, and history.

THINGS TWO: poise
This solo exhibition of work by Edinburgh-based artist Kayhan consists of large-format photographs united by a single word: balance. Each image captures a state of suspended animation—a delicate tension before movement, transformation, or dissolution. Crafted through slow, intuitive methods, these photographs are material traces of touch, time, and light. They bear witness to the uncertain equilibrium of our collective condition, speaking to the fragility and strength of that which endures.
