COL Gallery is pleased to announce Alchemies of Place a cross-generational exhibition tracing a pivotal shift in the history of painting: the moment when landscape ceased to function purely as representation and instead became a site of abstraction, metaphor, and subjective experience.
While Suzanne Jackson’s work is currently on view at SFMOMA and George Morrison’s paintings are on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, they—like many of the artists in the exhibition—have been historically underrecognized despite decades of boundary-pushing experimentation. Alchemies of Place offers a space to reconsider these practices not as peripheral, but as foundational to how abstraction has been formed, expanded, and sustained.
Participating artists:
Lynne Drexler, Claire Falkenstein, Ashley Garrett, Deborah Hede, Suzanne Jackson, Terran Last Gun, George Morrison, Anna Grace Nwosu, Benjamin Saperstein, Joan Snyder, Vivian Springford, Joan Tanner, Jonas Wood, and Gina Werfel
