Themes+Projects is pleased to share an upcoming exhibition of drawings by Paul Pickrel (1917–2014), presented at Lee's Launderette in the Mission. Please mark your calendar to join us for an opening reception on Friday, June 26, from 5 pm - 8 pm.
Drawn from more than forty sketchbooks created between 1972 and 1992, Paul's Drawings features fifty works selected from an archive of over five hundred original drawings. Comprised of figure studies and portraits, the exhibition offers a rare glimpse into a deeply personal creative practice that remained largely unseen during Pickrel's lifetime.
Though best known for his academic career at Yale University and Smith College, Pickrel maintained a dedicated drawing practice for decades, capturing the gestures, expressions, and personalities of those around him with remarkable sensitivity and insight.
Curated by his great-nephew Bryan Yedinak, this exhibition marks the first public presentation of these drawings and reveals an intimate body of work shaped by observation and curiosity.
