Opening reception: Saturday, January 10 | 5-8 pm

We are thrilled to announce Sky Hopinka: Sonic Transmissions, a solo exhibition that explores and highlights the importance of sound for the artist and filmmaker. Featuring videos from 2016 through 2025 projected in a newly constructed cinearama alongside poetry and a playlist created by Hopinka for the exhibition, Sonic Transmissions is an invitation to access a new sensorial dimension through the artist’s rhythmic, vocal, choral, and musical soundscapes.
As Gina Basso writes in her curatorial statement: “Hopinka is a musician and collector of sound, and a master of the mix. The intersection of sound, text, and imagery surfaces memories, elegies, and dreams. It also invites ghostly conversations to shape and reframe understanding of the Native American experience away from the ethnographic power that, in the artist’s words, ‘fixes our cultures and makes them into traditions, so they’re not contemporary.’”
