SF Art Events: Week of 1.11.26
THING ONE: Masami Teraoka: From Here to Eternity, Five Decades of Art Making
January 10 - March 7, 2026
Catharine Clark Gallery is pleased to open its 2026 exhibition program with Masami Teraoka: From Here to Eternity, Five Decades of Art Making. This major survey exhibition, mounted in celebration of the acclaimed artist’s 90th birthday, encompasses both the North and South galleries. Complementing the survey, the gallery presents a Media Room exhibition featuring a collaborative video work by Ken Goldberg and Tiffany Shlain.
These presentations inaugurate a year of programming celebrating Catharine Clark Gallery’s 35th anniversary and BOXBLUR’s 10th anniversary. The gallery also celebrates its recent designation as a Legacy Business in San Francisco, an honor bestowed on small businesses operating for over 30 years that have made significant contributions to the city’s economic and civic life.
Masami Teraoka: From Here to Eternity
Masami Teraoka (b. 1936) creates work that integrates reality with the surreal, humor with social commentary, and the historical with the contemporary. While sexuality is a recurring subject in his work, his representation of intimacy shifted from positive depictions of free love in the 1970s to a profound concern for the spread of HIV in the mid-1980s. This survey tracks that evolution, offering a rare opportunity to see watercolors, drawings, and multiples from Teraoka’s "AIDS Series" and "Waves Series" in conversation with projects ranging from 1974 to the present day.

THING Two: Christian Marclay
Jan 15–Mar 7, 2026
New monoprints and collages, and the 2015 video Bildspiel (after Dieter Roth’s “Kugelbild”, 1960)
Christian Marclay, Deep Dive
Fraenkel Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Christian Marclay featuring monoprints, collages, and a video. Fascination with vinyl records has long informed Marclay’s artistic practice. In this exhibition, the artist focuses on the recurring motifs found within the familiar square format of LP covers, exploring how music is packaged, distributed, and consumed. Following his inclusion in the 1998 Fraenkel Gallery exhibition Dust Breeding organized by artist and curator Steve Wolfe, the exhibition will be Marclay’s sixth solo show with the gallery since 2008. A reception with the artist will take place at the gallery on Saturday, January 17, from 11 am to 1 pm.

THING Three: Lucky 13
November 21, 2025 — January 11, 2026
“‘Lucky 13’ is a solo show featuring the work of @superday.art. The show about the paradoxes that exist in all of us. The battle between the expectations of others and who we really are. There are sources constantly telling us how to feel, what to do, how to act, who to be, and we all give in to those expectations in small and big ways. So this show is an opportunity to mourn the times we didn’t allow ourselves to be fully who we are.
Diego’s work (aka Superday) is a “F*%# you” to being perfect. His portraits have bright, colorful palettes, drawing inspiration from the summers he spent in Brazil. His rough and dynamic line work was a way to break out of years of perfectionism and being super hard on himself. It’s also a reflection of the messiness of being human, which is not perfect in any way. By using limited detail and simple backgrounds, his work gives space for the viewer to fill in the gaps, finish the story, and find their own connection to the art.
